Today I took Dawn on a Snowdrop Walk, based on this one I did two years ago, starting from Culford Village Hall and walking via the permissive paths through the grounds of Culford School to West Stow and back. This was our route.
It was a grey day, but the weather as warming up and the snow had all but disappeared. Here are a few of my photos.
We started from the village hall.
We found the usual great show of snowdrops in the grounds of Southwood.
We saw a couple of muntjac deer from a distance.
On the permitted paths now, we had a view of the school main building.
Skirting the woods, there were still little patches of snow beside our path.
We had to backtrack and go a different way here,
The lake was still partly frozen. Here are a couple of swans at the edge of it.
We took a little detour to explore the churchyard at St Mary's Church.
We crossed the River Lark as we circumnavigated the church. It was looking rather full.
We took another little detour to view West Stow Hall. I see you can hire a holiday cottage there.
We returned to the village, passing a bank of snowdrops and aconites....
...just before the junction with the village sign.
We returned through the school grounds via the other side of the lake....
...passing some Egyptian geese.
In the grounds, towards the entrance, we came across a last drift of snowdrops.
Lovely!
