Boudicca Way Part 1 - In Reverse

When we did the first part of the Boudicca Way in 2019, see here, not everyone who wanted to do it was able to make it, so Joyce decided to do it again, but this time in the opposite direction... and I thought I'd go along too.

This was the invite...

"Wednesday September 29th. Boudicca Way part 1 (17 miles). Diss to Tasburgh. We will meet at Rose Lane bus stop to catch the 9.55am Route 2 bus to Tasburgh and then walk back to our cars. I will park in Mission Road IP22 4HX . I suspect it will take about 5.5 hours. Please bring refreshments with you as opportunities are scarce.....it's a lovely walk!

In the end it was just four of us - Joyce, Glen, Roland and myself. We caught the bus as planned just after 9:55 and were in Tasburgh ready to start walking by 10:25. This was our route....

A little bit further than last time because of where we parked our cars, it was a good leg-stretch of nearly 18 1/2 miles. It was a lovely autumn day for it although there were a few puddles in places from recent rain and we did get caught in one brief shower about 3 miles from the end.

Here are a few photos....

Catching the bus.

Our starting point in Tasburgh,

We saw several of these original markers along the way.

Morningthorpe Church has an interesting tower, but this is as close to it as we got.

Our coffee stop was at Fritton Green...

...but we didn't use the seats around the village sign.

What a sky!

We liked this sign at Wood Green

The boardwalk in  Tyrells Wood.

These ladies were having fun at another stretch using it as a catwalk.

We spotted some deer, but they disappeared into the wood when we got closer.

Entering Pulham Market, our lunch stop.

The Crown Inn reopened today, but we resisted sampling its wares. We did wonder, though, if any dogs had tried the 3-course dog menu mentioned here.

We liked the Reliant Robin van parked outside the village shop.

Heading on after lunch through the village we came across this amazing plastering....

...and this lovely garden.

I remembered this old station from last time.

At Shimpling we found this great sign. We missed it last time as it is not obvious going in the other direction.

Shimpling Church has a very unusual Tower.

Oh no. It started to rain... and I didn't have any waterproofs with me. But, fortunately, it didn't last long.

We passed St. Andrew's Church, Frenze.

Here we joined the Angles Way and Joyce took a photo to get Miranda to remind her to walk it with her. At least I think that's what she said!

We did a loop through Diss to get to the official end of the route, passing some nice gardens along the way.

And here is the end - the station. Just 10 minutes walk from here back to our cars.

A lovely autumn day's walk. Thank-you Joyce for organising it and leading it and to Glan and Roland too for the company.

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk and more of my photos here on Flickr.
