Hartest Walks

It was a  lovely sunny autumn day today for an old favourite pair of walks from Hartest, last done in October last year (see here), but you can find more versions here. This was the invite from Joyce

"Friday September 24th  The beautiful Hartest 10 mile walk. We will meet at 10.30am at the Institute car park  (IP29 4DH). After the first 5 mile loop we will stop for lunch at Hartest church or The Crown Pub. Please bring packed lunch/drink. We are aiming to finish by 3pm."

We did the usual two-parter, but in reverse. These were our routes...

Morning...

Afternoon...

It was perfect weather for it and we had a good turnout of 10 walkers. Here are a few of my photos.

This house on the green was having it's thatched roof redone.

As we headed up past The Chestnuts and Valance Farm, the view was still a bit hazy in the morning sun.

I recognised this house as we reached Boxsted.

Preparing a field for replanting.

The end of our morning walk.

In the afternoon we headed towards Somerton and more lovely views.

Looking westwards from the heights as we approached Somerton and the Bury to Clare walk, we could see several churches... just as I had done last week on my Stansfield Walk - Stansfield Church furthest away...

...and Hawkedon Church in the dip...

...before arriving at Somerton Church, "one of the highest churches in Suffolk - geographically speaking, not ecclesiastically."

Somerton village is lovely walk through....

...and we saw some lovely flowers.

Late on in the walk we came to our familiar landmark - the white chairs.

Peter and I decided chairs are for sitting on (thank-you for the photo Miranda)

A last chance to gorge on the plentiful balckberries

This haystack looked impressive in the afternoon sunshine.

Then it was back down the hill into Hartest past this cottage.

Thank-you Joyce for leading us round and the others too for the company.

You can find more details of our routes on MapMyWalk : Part1 and Part2 and a few more of my photos here on Flickr.
