Crieff Baird Monument Walk

It has been getting hotter each day this week. Today I thought we'd do a walk with plenty of shade followed by a picnic.

I found it in a booklet of walks from Crieff which was among the excellent set of leaflets and local information provided in our Rennie Mack retreat. It started from the lovely McCrosky Park in Crieff and followed Lady Mary's Walk for a while before continuing along the River Earn and then heading up to the David Baird Monument and back via Laggan Hill.

This was (sort of) our route - my tracker paused for a while so some of the detail is missing around the middle.

Here are a few of my photos.

We started along the Turret Burn but soon joined the River Earn.

Once more we found plenty of wild raspberries to snack on as we walked.

We had a bit of a detour after encountering a group of 6 cows that had escaped onto the footpath. we had a bit of a standoff for about 10 minutes, before they retreated along the path.

We eventually reached the monument, but the view was obscured by the trees.

No matter, though, we got excellent views along the rest of our path. This is the view towards Comrie. Can you see the white church and parish church spire?

This is Samson's stone. It looks a little out of place on the hillside.

Look what we found in the woods nearby.

The view south from Laggan Hill.

Towards the end we got lovely views of Crieff (see phot at the top of the post). This is Crieff Hydro.

Down at the Turret Burn again just before the end of our walk, Sarah and William enjoyed a paddle in the Turret Burn. It was much colder than Loch Earn was when wakeboarding yesterday, they said.

Back at the park, we had our picnic.

There is a fish ladder on the river here, but we saw no fish climbing.

No band playing at the bandstand either.

A lovely 1/2 day walk and picnic.

You can see more details of our route here and more of my photos here on Flickr.
