Killin, Loch Tay and the Falls of Dochart

Today we went a little further afield as Sarah and William had a Wakeboarding experience (q.v.) booked for late afternoon at Lochearnhead. I included a short walk from Killin to the end of Loch Tay before lunch at the Falls of Dochart Smokehouse and a short walk in Glen Ogle.

But to start with we stopped at the side of Loch Earn on our way to take a few photos. It was another lovely sunny day and there was no wind, leaving the loch looking like a millpond.

At Killin we went for a short (3 mile) walk to the end of Loch Tay, and back finishing at our lunch destination, the Falls of Dochart Smokehouse. This was our route.

Here are a few photos.

Crossing the River Tay we saw some paddleboarders.

Ben Lawers, the highest peak in the Southern Highlands is on the north side of the loch.

Looking along the loch.

Crossing the River Dochart on the 37ft high Dochart Viaduct.

At the roadside beside the Falls of Dochart - see also the photo at the top of the blog.

We sat outside at the smokehouse...

...and enjoyed the Tasting plate of "...whisky smoked hot & cold salmon, whisky smoked
cheddar, salmon pâté, a choice of hand-made chutneys, oatcakes, capers, lemon & blinis".

Delicious. And the oak used to smoke everything is from used Glenturret Distillery casks.

We had a little explore of the falls before returning to the car.

And a final view of Ben Lawers before heading back to Lochearnhead for some wakeboarding.
