Glen Lednock and Deil's Caldron Walk

I found the excellent Walks around Comrie leaflet from Comrie Community Council for sale at the post office. It provides colour maps with guide notes to six local walks on rights of way. Today we did our first - Glen Lednock and the Deil's Caldron.

This was our route...

We went clockwise, going up the west side of the Glen first. Here are a few photos.

The walk starts just round the corner from where we are staying.

We liked the Happy Bench at the start. "Sit here if you don't mind someone stopping by and saying Hi", says the sign.

We soon came to some tasty wild raspberries. I'm sure we'll find plenty more this week.

The path took us first to the Wee Caldron....

...before the main one (see also the top of this post).

We tried the path up to Lord Melville's Monument.

but turned back when we met a couple who had tried but gave up as tyhe poath was impassable. I think we'll try the longer, but less steep, route later in the week.

We were only going up the first couple of miles of Glen Lednock, which goes another 11 miles up from here. Those hills look inviting.

We saw plenty of heather.

Crossing the river via the Shaky Bridge. Shaky is a common epithet here as Comrie is the Earthquake capital on the UK... about which more anon.

We passed a sign warning of fallen trees like we saw on the path up the hill on the other side.

We had lovely blue skies and the path was mostly gentle.

There's that monument again.

In the woods we found a lot of fallen trees. The local foresters had done great work in making the path passable, but we did have to bit of clambering here.

We descending back down to the river just before the end in Laggan Park Car Park (where we had been yesterday).

Then it was a short walk back through the village to the retreat for lunch.

A great first walk of the holiday. I'm sure we'll do plenty more this week.

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk and more of my photos here on Flickr.
