Kelso to Roxburgh Walk

We found another walk in the local walks booklet that looked interesting... along the Borders Abbeys Way by the River Teviot towards Jedburgh, but crossing the river at Roxburgh and returning via the disused railway-line path.

This was our route, although I was a bit late in starting my tracker.

This is how it looked in the booklet...

We started at Kelso Abbey, the least impressive of the 3 we had seen.

Crossing the river we got a nice view of Floors Castle.

Where the Teviot joins the Tweed is a famous fishing spot.

We then crossed the Teviot.

One of the herons we saw today.

The path goes right alongside the river.

It passes under the remains of Roxburgh Castle. There's not much of it left to see.

We re-crossed the Teviot via the footbridge strung to the viaduct....

...but then walked back onto the viaduct for the view.

Oh look. It's those hills again!

...and another view of Floors Castle.

This white house is impressive. Known as Maisondieu it is hospice and is on the site of a hospital founded in the 12th century.

We returned to Kelso via the Millenium View.

We decided to stop off here on our way back to Jedburgh for some lunch - the Teviot Smokery and Water Gardens.
