Sutton Hoo

When I last visited Sutton Hoo on a Suffolk Walking Festival event last year, we were told about the planned refurbishment of the exhibition centre and new walks. It has recently reopened.  I last took the family there many years ago so thought it would be a nice day out today.

It was pouring with rain when we left home, but the forecast said it would clear up and, sure enough, by the time we got there it had stopped raining. And by the time we had finished touring the exhibition centre, it was lovely and sunny.

We then did a combination of the Pinewood and Valley waymarked walks, although some of the latter was closed off because work was still being done on the viewing platform.

This was our route of about 2 1/2 miles.

Here are a few photos.

This game is called Hnefatafl. You can play it online here.

What are these two doing?

Picking and scoffing these!

WSe got nice views across the Deben river to Woodbridge.

The reconstructed burial mound.

The building of the new viewing platform has still some way to go.

Sarah enjoying a lemon sorbet outside Tranmer House at the end of our walk.

A nice half-day out... with time for us to visit the sea before going home... q.v.

You can see more details of our route here on MapMyWalk and more of my photos here on Flickr.
