Kelso Town Walk

A third day, a third Border Abbey Town. Today we went to Kelso, to the North-East of Jedburgh, Not quite a picturesque as Jedburgh and Melrose, nevertheless it has its charms. And time to put our third booklet to use... we followed its recommended route around town.

This was where we went...

Well we finished at the car park rather than where we started, but you'll get the idea.Highlights included the racecourse with its golf course in the middle and the  walk long the banks of the River Tweed.

Here are a few photos...

The micropub wasn't open before we left. Shame.

 The Kelsae Stane

The cricket ground...

...has a bench from Lord's.

We never got to the Obelisk, a memorial to James Thomson, the author of the words to Rule Britannia.

We enjoyed walking through the racecourse with a golf course in the middle.

We got a nice vie of the town as we descended from the race course to the river.

We passed the gates to Floors Castle, which... I've just looked it up... we visited on a family holiday in 2003. Yes my digital photo archives go back that far!

By the river Tweed close to the junction with the River Teviot, of which more anon...

We finished by having coffee here before embarking on our next walk.

I liked the sign.

You can see more of my photos here on Flickr and more details of our walk here on MapMyWalk.
