Brandon Country Park Walk

It was a lovely sunny morning today and William was staying over, so we decided all to go for a short walk before lunch. We went to Brandon Country Park - a favourite place to walk in winter as it doesn't get muddy.

We did the purple trail of about 3.5 miles.

Here are a few of my photos. At the start of the trail the path goes through deciduous woodland with a carpet of leaves.

Here you can still find plenty of fungi. We have often come here in the past in autumn time when they are at their peak. (See links at the end of this post.

It was nearly midday, and the wouldn't be getting higher today, but the shadows are still long.

Emerging into the evergreen trees... I remember walking this trail with the family when the the trees were previously harvested and new seedlings planted. How they have grown... both the trees and the children.

It is  a while since we did this walk. At some point since we last did there must have a bit of a fire here, where a number of tree trunks are blackened.

We found some cheerful seasonal holly.

We stopped at a corner where we had before found interesting colonies of mushrooms mosses and lichens. Yes they are still thriving here.

We didn't venture onto the open heathland as it wasn't on our route.

We returned past the familiar sights of Edward Bliss's Mausoleum..,

...Brandon Park care home...

...and the lake.

Then, of course, we had to visit the walled garden,

...and walk the snake maze.

A lovely morning's walk and we were back home in time for lunch.

You can find a few more photos from our walk today here on Flickr.
