Today's Bury St. Edmunds Ramblers walk was in and around Brandon Country Park, for many years a favourite with the family.
We were admirably led by Chris F, who promised us plenty of shade along the route. Here is our route...
It was mostly based on the Orange route, now known as the Firecrest Route, but with a couple of extra wiggles.
There was some lovely shaded walking in the woods...
But our peaceful progress gently accompanied by birdsong was rudely shattered by a number of these inorganic flying objects...
Chris had found us a great spot for our drinks break just before halfway, the Elm Plantation Flint mining site...
The paths were wide and open. No worries about nettles with wearing shorts today!
Eventually we came to the heathland and, for a short while, no shade....
But not for long and we soon arrived at the mausoleum...
...where we were rejoined by our friends in the sky.
The pond is getting a bit overgrown. We didn't envy the man who was trying to cut the reeds.
Then we reached journey's and and a welcome drink in the Copper Beech Cafe.
Although not part of the walk, I visited the walled garden before going home.
The pergola was covered in a grape vine and honeysuckle. Can you see the little grapes?
A great walk for a warm sunny summer's day. Thanks Chris!
