We got good value for our advertised 5.5 miles, ending up walking rather more than 6. Not that we were complaining... we had plenty to see along the way and it was pleasantly less warm than recent days. Here's Janet introducing her walk
..which started by going past Melford Hall.
...and, Long Melford's Holy Trinity Church.According to this article, "The nave, at 152.6 feet (46.5 m), is believed to be the longest of any parish church in England. There are nine bays, of which the first five at the western end are believed to date from an earlier structure."
The sharp-eyed among you will note this was a photo from the end of our walk rather than the beginning as we walked the other side on our way out of Long Melford. We saw plenty of fields looking ready to harvest.
And, indeed, one being harvested...
Oo look! A Playpark!
A break for a drink and snacks was most welcome.
I spotted this butterfly. Thanks to Chris Gay for telling me it's a Comma. I didn't think they could be that colour. But look here.
The landscape looked very summery. Here are a few samples...
Eventually, we arrived back at Long Melford green.
A great morning's walk. Thanks Janet! You can see details of our route here and a more of my photos on Flickr.
