Clare Circular Walk

"Come on kids. Let's go for a picnic". Young Miss, in particular, has scarcely been out the house since the end of her exams, except for a couple of shopping expeditions and some Orchestra practice.I decided a gentle circular walk would do them good and a bit of al fresco eating too.

We drove to Clare Castle Country Park Country. It is £2 parking for more than 1 hour. According to my photo catalogue, the last time we were here was April 2009. "Let's have a walk before our picnic", I said.

Here is our route...

Of course Young Mr  had to climb the Castle mound first, and I followed. It give great views. Here is the view of the Town.

I hadn't reckoned on the visitor centre not being open, but there was meant to be a waysigned circular walk.. We started at the old station...

..and walked a bit along the old railway track. But we never saw a sign for the circular walk so I made up my own, going through the centre of the town and out onto the common, before returning via the river (finding the official circular walk in the process). Here are a couple of views along the way...

We then enjoyed our picnic by the river accompanied by swans, ducks, moorhen, fish and demoiselle flies.

The walk was less than 2 1/2 miles, but that was probably enough for young Miss, who doesn't get on well with heat. She enjoyed the air-conditioning in the car on the way home!

You can see details of our route here and a more of my photos on Flickr.
