This walk was a recce for the route for a walk I've volunteered to lead for the
Bury St. Edmunds Ramblers at the end of November. I'd sketched it out using the
Ramblers' Route Planner, which said it should be about 5.75miles. Some of it was unwalked territory for me and I missed one intended turning, but that did no harm as it avoided a short stretch of walking along the road.
This was my actual route....
Of course it will be a different time of year when I do it and the scenery will not be so parched (I hope!). The route combines elements of each of the blue, black, yellow, red and green walks, shown here...
...with some walking outside the nature reserve too. A lot of the ground was baked dry and there were warnings not to start fires.
It was a pleasant relief to see some green grass along the side of the River Little Ouse.I've not seen anything so green for a few weeks.
But there were plenty of wildflowers along the route including some sweet peas.
This
wasp spider was an unusual find.
