Today we took William to Woolpit and decided to do a bit of a walk on the way back. It was going to be the hottest day of the year so far, so I thought we should go for the cooling shade of Bradfield Woods - our first trip there this year. We got the last parking spot in the car park and had to work to keep distanced from everybody. So we chose not to follow a single trail but made our own route. This was it...
Not a long walk - we were done in about 45 minutes, but we saw lots of flowers and heard lots of birdsong while staying cool in the shade.
Heer are a few photos. The dappled sunshine was lovely and Dawn was partly camouflaged.
What we had really come for was the Wild garlic, aka ramsons. They are at their best at the moment and there is a profusion of them such as we've never seen. The scent was strong but not unpleasant. Maybe we should have cropped some of the flowers to cook with.
I still don't know what these plants are. [Update: Thanks, Joyce. They are Water Avens],
The bluebells are done, with just a few remaining.
There were dandelion clocks everywhere.
In among the sticthwort was some yellow rattle.
Lovely! That was nicer than walking in the hot sun.
You can see details of our route here on MapMyWalk.
