Today we had a wintry walk from Ramparts Field near West Stow to Icklingham, Cavenham Heath and Tuddenham and back.
This was the invite from Joyce yesterday.
"We have hastily arranged a walk from the Ramparts off the West Stow Road over to Tuddenham Garden Centre tomorrow. We will follow the Icknield Way over to Icklingham and then Cavenham Heath and Tuddenham. After a refreshment stop at Tuddenham Garden Centre (about mid-day) we will return in a similar way. Do come and meet Jane, John and I at 10am Dress warmly."
Sarah is home from York now so she came and Miranda made a 5th walker.
This was our route - the same there and back.
Here are a few photos.
At the car park ready to go once Joyce had checked her sandwich.
It was still a bit misty to start with, but it soon cleared.
Yes we are in The Brecks - here is a typical skyline.
It was still quite frosty. In fact we decided it was a light dusting of snow that left the ice crystals that gleamed back at us.
We liked the Money Puzzle Christmas tree.
On towards Cavenham Heath....
...meeting this horse along the way.
Sarah remembers Temple Bridge as "the crayfish place" from when we visited when she was quite small and found people fishing for crayfish. There are signs saying it is not allowed now.
Joyce shared some delicious gingerbread biscuits she had made.
Here we crossed the River Lark onto the heath.
We passed this pond and colourful willow tree as we entered Tuddenham St. Mary village.
By the mill, we turned off to Tuddenham Nursery....
We returned the way we came, pausing here to track down and reunite this little dog with its owner.
We went through the woods again.
Heading back to Ramparts Field again...
...Sarah found some ice in a frozen puddle.
The sun was getting low now and the shadows were lengthening.
And here we are back where we started.
A lovely walk with some
apricity from the lovely sunshine once the mist had cleared so we didn't get too cold. Thank-you Joyce and all.
